My first attempt with the new paints & washes that GW has provided this year. Bit of a new learning curve especially for one who has been painting as long as I have, but very interesting and fun to get into.
And what better way than testing it all out on a model I had lying around collecting dust? Really like the Sslyth who act as bodyguards for the Dark Eldar Lords and probably one of the few loyal creatures to be found in that dark & foreboding fortress of theirs. Though the original model had 4 arms that I took 2 of them off since it looked far to bulky for an otherwise very sleek design.
Great job on the model. I really like how you did the scales. They look really vivid and have a great luster to them. Looking at it from the back view it actually looks pretty real.
They act as high ranking mercenaries/body guards for the Dark Eldar Lords, pretty sought after since they have something most Dark Eldar lack, loyalty XD
I think you missed a pari of arms somewhere. or you modeling it without them. Sslyth are fluffed to have two sets of arms, one pair holding pistol and sword, teh other holding a Shard Carbine. Did you deliberatly model it without the second set?
Excellent paintwork. I'm not going to be buying from the new range just yet. My IS still has ye olde Citadel colours, but once they're gone, and I have completely run out, thats when I'll be updating my paints.
Read the description, I took the extra set of arms off cause I thought it made the model look bulky and cumbersome for something that is supposed to be fast and agile.
Give the new paints a try when you can they really make a difference.
Yes it mostly has to do that you can leave certain stages of painting out for the first time, I adore the new shades and washes, they are so easy to work with.
